Preservation Connecticut is excited to announce the first award winners of a new grant fund made possible by a generous donation form The New Milford Trust for Historic Preservation. The Charles Beach Barlow Fund is an annual matching grant program of up to $20,000 to support the preservation of historic properties in New Milford, Connecticut.   Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations or private homeowners. Three nonprofit organizations were awarded funding for exterior preservation work on their historic structures. The 2026 Charles Beach Barlow Fund recipients are: 

  • Hunt Hill Farm Trust Inc.: $20,000 for roof repairs and exterior painting at the Silo Complex 
  • Merwinsville Hotel Restoration Inc.: $6,975 for gutter replacement and fascia board restoration at the Merwinsville Hotel 
  • Northwest Connecticut Land Conservancy: $20,000 for window restoration at Smyrski Farm 

Preservation Connecticut is a statewide nonprofit historic preservation organization, established in 1975 by a Special Act of the Connecticut General Assembly as the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation, to preserve, protect, and promote the buildings, sites, and landscapes that contribute to the heritage and vitality of Connecticut’s communities.  For over 50 years, Preservation Connecticut has successfully championed the protection of remarkable community assets all over the state by leveraging funding, advocating, forming partnerships, and promoting stewardship.
