Circuit Riders

They are Preservation Connecticut’s “boots on the ground” and are ready to help.

Preservation Connecticut stays on the “front lines” of preservation around the State, thanks to our popular Circuit Rider program, funded in part by the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office. The program was established in 2001 with funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  Our Circuit Riders, Brad Schide, Mike Forino, Stacey Vairo and Stefon Danczuk can provide promt and in person assistance to historical societies, property owners, developers, elected officials, and local preservation commissions across Connecticut.

In providing these services, Circuit Riders aim both to ensure that historic places are repaired, rehabilitated, and reused, and to increase local capacity for stewardship and good policy-making.  Over the last few years, they have made hundreds of visits to communities all over the state:

2021 visits

2022 visits

2023 visits

Our Circuit Riders can help with:

  • Technical assistance to help identify planning and capital needs and to suggest appropriate preservation techniques
  • Financial guidance to provide and identify appropriate grants and loans
  • Leadership in convening and negotiating among stakeholders
  • Policy and legal support, to empower communities to tailor-make laws to protect their assets

Our field work is so important to us- but it does take resources!

A single visit can cost PCT upwards of $200. Please consider a donation to our Circuit Rider fund by clicking the button below.

If your institution is facing a significant preservation challenge, you’ve come to the right place with Preservation Connecticut. We are here to help.
