Join us for the first session of the Fall 2024 Talking About Preservation series! On Wednesday, October 16th, we will feature a project focused on the history and prevalence of deed provisions that exclude non-white people in Connecticut. Recently enacted Connecticut law addresses the identification and rejection of those provisions and the creators of www.myCTdeed.com provide a new resource to help property owners through the process. Our presenter, David Ware, is a retired corporate and business attorney who proposed and supported the 2021 law that invalidates racially restrictive real estate covenants, and enables properly owners to officially renounce them. Mr. Ware researches townland records to identify the existence of these covenants, promotes awareness of their history and advocates for the rejection through the recording of simple, no-cost state-approved forms. He will provide background and explain the information available through the project’s website.
