March 2nd: African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund

Lawana Holland Moore, Program Officer, African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, National Trust for Historic Preservation

On Wednesday, March 2nd at noon, we have the honor of welcoming Lawana Holland Moore, Program Officer for the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund at the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She will present about the Fund which is a multi-year, $50 million dollar initiative to identify, elevate and support the voices, stories and places of African American activism, achievement, and community. Furthermore, she will talk about the Fund’s Preserving Black Churches grant program which will provide direct and targeted funding and assistance to Black churches for staffing and operations, create an emergency fund and help churches develop digital storytelling and documentation strategies.

Lawana Hollard Moore holds a B.A. from The George Washington University in History and Journalism and a M.A. from Goucher College in Historic Preservation. She was the 2014 National Trust Colony Scholar and wrote her Master’s thesis on “Ethnic Minority Heritage Values and U.S. Historic Preservation Significance Policy.” She has been a Researcher for the White House Historical Association and helped the Greenbelt Museum and Historic House in Greenbelt, Maryland field inquiries and manage their website and social media. A DC native, she also serves on the Landmarks Committee of the DC Preservation League.​
