When historic places are threatened, Preservation Connecticut (PCT) can offer a Technical Assistance Consultancy (TAC) for structural inspections, architectural analysis, and other specialized technical services, typically under $3,000. This program is aimed to provide immediate assistance for organizations that have safety concerns regarding their buildings, who need second opinions and temporary recommendations, or who need to answer specific technical questions for funders.
Important: Please note that this is not a grant program. PCT will hire professionals directly, and potential projects will be prioritized by need. This program is not intended to circumvent planning programs or replace the need for full-scale conditions assessments, structural and mechanical analysis, plans and specifications, etc.
TACs may be used to address the following:
- Safety Concern
- TACs can be used to provide advice on a structural, mechanical, or other issue that your organization is concerned about.
- Temporary Recommendations
- The TAC program can be used to develop limited scopes of work for temporary repairs aimed at staving off water infiltrations, structural failures, and other issues that are of immediate concern.
- Second Opinions
- If your organization has received advice or recommendations from architects, engineers, contractors, officials, or other professionals, our TAC program can be used to provide second opinions, which will inform stakeholders’ decisions.
- Funding Logjam
- TACs can be used if your organization is in the process of seeking funding but the funder needs additional specific information to move the project forward.
If you believe your organization is in need of a TAC, please fill out the online inquiry form. Please note that not all inquiries will result in a TAC.
Please contact Michael Forino, Field Services Director, at mforino@preservationct.org, with questions or concerns.
Selection Process
Rejection would most likely be due to the following:
- Lack of a detailed explanation of project need
- Lack of perceived urgency
- Lack of detailed photos
If a request for a TAC is rejected, one of our Circuit Riders will reach out to your organization to discuss the project further.
Timeline
If a request is approved, the project will be distributed to PCT’s list of qualified consultants. Once a consultant responds, PCT will reach out to the requestor.
