Important updates about funding resources from the State Historic Preservation Office:

Funding match temporarily suspended for Survey and Planning and Partners In Preservation Grants

In response to economic difficulties faced by many of our non-profit and municipal partners as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Historic Preservation Council has agreed to waive the match required for the Survey and Planning and Partners in Preservation grants. This decision applies to all applications received from the May 6, 2020 through the December 2, 2020 HPC meeting. 

Temporary relief for stewards of designated historic resources

SHPO is launching a new Stewardship Relief Grant this month. The purpose of this funding is to encourage and support the continued safeguarding of historic resources at a time when many organizations are experiencing economic distress because of the Covid-19 pandemic. 

  • Eligible reimbursable expenses are those related to the basic utility costs associated with operating or maintaining a property listed on the state or National Register of Historic Places.
  • Eligible applicants: 501 c 3 non-profit organizations
  • Grant amounts are between $500 and $1,000. 
  • The application and guidelines will be available on our website by May 18, 2020. 
  • The program is retroactive to March 1, 2020.
  • The Historic Preservation Council will award grants at its regular monthly meeting.
  • SHPO accepts applications on a rolling basis for as long as funding is available.
  • Funds are provided by the Community Investment Act.

 Advocacy Update:

On April 30th, Preservation Connecticut signed onto a letter for  collective advocacy to advance key preservation priorities in future legislation the Congress will pass to address the nation’s health emergency and assist the nation’s economic recovery. The letter was sent to Congressional leadership and every House and Senate office earlier today. A total of 379 organizations and businesses, including the National Main Street Center, National Trust Community Investment Corporation, National Preservation Partners Network, and the Coalition for American Heritage, joined the National Trust for Historic Preservation on this letter.
