Happy Earth Day from all of us at Preservation CT!
We are an active steward of our state’s history and heritage but we’re also working on a more sustainable future that’s only possible when we embrace the past. This goes well beyond conservation and environmental responsibility — it’s about making Connecticut’s communities vibrant — successful, economically vital and more resilient.
Every year, 1 billion square feet of buildings are demolished, put in landfills, and replaced with new construction in the U.S. Every day, we get notified of another pending demolition from one-family residences to large industrial buildings. Preservation is not just about keeping buildings standing but turning them into places people love to be. Finding a smart use for them is so much more fulfilling than replacing them with generic soulless structures- and much more sustainable.
Even though Carl Elefante’s words are used often, it is still worth repeating- the greenest Building is the one already built. Here at Preservation Connecticut, we are committed to protecting places for a sustainable future.
