Preservation Connecticut Announces Historic Preservation Matching Grants in Partnership with The 1772 Foundation
Preservation Connecticut, partnering for the fifteenth year with The 1772 Foundation, has awarded historic preservation matching grants totaling $136,818 to seventeen nonprofit organizations throughout Connecticut. Awards ranged from 1,213 to $10,000 for Eligible projects, such as roof replacement, window Restoration, and masonry repointing. Congratulations to this year’s grant recipients:
- Finnish American Heritage Society Inc.: $10,000 for roof replacement at the Finnish Hall (Canterbury)
- Trustees and Proprietors of Bacon Academy: $10,000 for chimney repairs at the historic Bacon Academy (Colchester)
- Fairfield Museum and History Center: $2,820 for fire safety at the Ogden House (Fairfield)
- Hill-Stead Museum: $10,000 for exterior painting at the Hill-Stead Museum (Farmington)
- Merwinsville Hotel Restoration Inc.: $10,000 for exterior painting at the Merwinsville Hotel (Gaylordsville)
- Hyland House Museum: $1,213 for security and fire safety at the Hyland House (Guilford)
- Connecticut Fair Housing Center Inc.: $10,000 for roof restoration at the Capewell Horse Nail Company Office Building (Hartford)
- Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution: $10,000 for foundation stabilization at the Wadsworth Stables (Lebanon)
- Manchester Historical Society: $8,890 for electrical upgrades at the Manchester History Center (Manchester)
- North Stonington Historical Society: $8,500 for chimney repairs at the Stephen Main Homestead (North Stonington)
- Pomfret Historical Society: $3,750 for window restoration at the Pomfret Old Town House (Pomfret)
- Simsbury Historical Society: $10,000 for window restoration at the Capt. Elisha Phelps House (Simsbury)
- Yellow Farmhouse Education Center: $10,000 for exterior painting at Stone Acres Farmhouse (Stonington)
- Hicks-Stearns Family Museum: $6,425 for masonry repairs at the Hicks-Stearns Family Museum (Tolland)
- Gunn Memorial Library and Museum: $5,220 for security upgrades at the Gunn Memorial Museum (Washington)
- West Cornwall Public Library Association: $10,000 for roof replacement at the Hughes Memorial Library (West Cornwall)
- Windham Historical Society: $10,000 for window restoration at the Jillson House (Willimantic)

The 1772 Foundation was named in honor of its first restoration project, Liberty Hall in Union, NJ, which was built in 1772 and is the ancestral home of the Livingston and Kean families.
