Preservation Connecticut recently awarded Vibrant Communities Initiative grants to support preservation planning in two Connecticut cities. The grants, using Historic Preservation Technical Assistance Grant funding from the State Historic Preservation Office through the Community Investment Act, are aimed at helping communities produce action plans for underutilized cultural and historic assets. Circuit Rider Brad Schide will continue to work with both communities to refine and carry out the projects.

The funded projects:

Groton: undertake community visioning for revitalizing the Thames Street neighborhood, part of the Groton Bank National Register District (top photo).

New Haven: produce a feasibility study and identify potential developers for the former Horace H. Strong School(1915, bottom photo), a major institutional landmark in the Fair Haven neighborhood.
