The New Milford Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking funds to hire a 36 CFR-qualified architect and engineer, or consulting firm to conduct a thorough examination of, and to produce a detailed condition assessment for the Nathaniel Taylor/Charles Barlow House (1774), located on the village green at 34 Main Street, in New Milford, Connecticut. The house, which was bequeathed to the New Milford Trust for Historic Preservation in 2017, requires a condition assessment to prioritize structural, architectural, and mechanical issues including, but not limited to vinyl siding removal, new roof replacement, siding and trim repair, shutter and hardware replacement, window Restoration, HVAC system, possible necessity of grading to improve drainage, and terrace and balcony repairs. This condition assessment is the vital first step to identify these issues and potential solutions, for the Trust to launch a fundraising campaign to fund the capital projects to address them, and to restore and expand the use of the Building. The assessment should also include recommendations for potential uses of the house to provide for opening it to the community as well as providing a revenue stream for its ongoing preservation.
