Is My Property Historic?

There are a few ways to find out if your property is historic!
We tell property owners that they have to look in three separate “registers of historic places” to be able to answer the question. These registers – at the national, state, and local levels – are lists of properties that have historical significance and physical integrity.  Click here for more information about what these various designations might mean!

National Register

To see if your property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, check out the National Park Service website to see if it is individually listed or part of a larger historic district.

State Register

To see if your property is listed on the State Register of Historic Places, contact the State Historic Preservation Office by phone at 860-500-2300.  And click here to check out a 1974 inventory completed by the State Historic Preservation Office here.

Local Register

To see if your property is in a local historic district, visit Preservation Connecticut’s Local Historic Districts website.
