May 4, 2023. Hamden, CT. Preservation Connecticut is pleased to announce its 2023 Maintenance & Repair grants recipients. These grants are funded through the Community Investment Act and support work on historic buildings of religious organizations. This year, the program received 17 applications requesting a total of $240,000 and granted $49,500 for 4 projects, all properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
- Barkhamsted Congregational Church, painting: $15,000
- Hartford, Trinity Episcopal Church, chimney repairs: $15,000
- Litchfield, St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, electrical upgrades: $7,000
- New Haven, Pitt’s Chapel UFWB Church, boiler replacement: $12,500
Not only do these buildings house worship services, they provide essential space for other groups to perform their work, including hosting soup kitchens, childcare, Boy/Girl Scouts activities, food or clothing banks, and recovery programs. Since 2017, Preservation Connecticut has dedicated funds every year for preservation work on these important places for communities. We have awarded 28 grants totaling over $267,000 to churches in all Connecticut counties. Contact Michael Forino, mforino@preservationct.org with questions.
