As statutory partner to the State Historic Preservation Office, Preservation CT typically takes the lead on actions to prevent demolition of significant buildings through the State Environmental Protection Act. These actions require site visits, schematic/conceptual designs, structural reports, zoning reviews and public testimony at the State Historic Council Meeting to assist in making our case to save a building. The purpose of the exercise is to propose a prudent and feasible alternative to the proposed demolition of a building on the National Register of Historic Places. Selected firms must work as a team with Preservation CT to coordinate an economically feasible strategy.
From time to time during our field work, we encounter a need for a structural report or a schematic design and/or zoning review around certain buildings that may or may not be threatened (called a Technical Assistance Consultancy). In this situation, besides the aforementioned scope, there would be a site visit, possible interaction with local partners or owners and a final report submitted to Preservation CT.
Since many of these assignments come up suddenly, and there are pressures from funders and the State for completion, we need someone to work efficiently and quickly to meet the prescribed timelines.
Ability to work efficiently in a team approach, with various state and local partners and owners of properties. Provide examples.
