Charles Barlow Fund for Historic Preservation

With a generous $460,000 donation from the New Milford Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation Connecticut is proud to launch the Charles Barlow Fund for Historic Preservation, an annual 1:1 matching grant program of up to $20,000 to support the preservation of historic properties in New Milford, CT through maintenance, restoration, strategic planning, and efforts to prevent demolition. The Fund is named in honor of Charles Beach Barlow (1926-2016), a longtime New Milford resident and philanthropist who supported a wide range of non-profit efforts, including historic preservation.

Eligible Applicants: Annual grants of up to $20,000 will be offered to New Milford (including Northville and Gaylordsville) homeowners who own historically significant homes and 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations (including churches) that own or lease historically significant structures.

Eligible Structures: Eligible structures include owner-occupied houses, outbuildings (barns and carriage houses), commercial buildings, industrial buildings, and bridges that were constructed before 1950 with documented or demonstrable historical significance, that are designated as Local Historic Properties, or that have been listed on the State or National Register of Historic Places.

    • Window repair
    • Foundation and sill repairs
    • Drainage and gutter systems
    • Structural repairs
