Preservation Connecticut is pleased to announce its 2022 Maintenance & Repair grants recipients. These grants are funded through the Community Investment Act and support work on historic buildings of religious organizations. This year, the program received sixteen applications requesting a total of $240,000 and granted $50,000 for five projects, all properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
- First Congregational Church, East Haddam: $15,000 for steeple repairs;
- Congregation Mishkan Israel, Hamden: $10,000 to clean and repair stained glass;
- Peter’s Episcopal Church, Hebron: $7,500 for roofing;
- Christ Church Episcopal, Roxbury: $7,500 for roofing; and
- Congregational Church, Wilton: $10,000 for painting and carpentry repairs.
Not only do these buildings house worship services, but they provide essential space for other groups to perform their work including hosting soup kitchens, childcare, Boy/Girl Scouts activities, food or clothing banks, and recovery programs. Since 2017, Preservation Connecticut has dedicated funds every year for preservation work on these important places for communities. We have awarded 23 grants totaling over $217,000 to churches in all Connecticut counties. Find out more about this granting program or contact Michael Forino, mforino@preservationct.org.
