Our grants help organizations that cultivate appreciation for history and community.

This year, Preservation Connecticut in partnership with The 1772 Foundation awarded a grant of $3,335 to the Fairfield Museum and History Center for repair and replacement of decayed wood cedar shingles at the museum’s 18th century Ogden House. This is the second grant invested by the partnership, the first being a $5,000 grant used for window and sill repair on the same house.

Built in 1740 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Ogden House is among the oldest residences open to the public in Fairfield County. It is an important property that is used for educational programming throughout the year and is an integral part of the Fairfield Museum’s successful K-12 school and family programming. The house and its interpretive garden and beehive project are used to showcase the life of a middle-class colonial family and explore topics of environmental Sustainability and local food. The completed exterior repairs mark the end of a decade-long careful Restoration that ensures the stability of the Ogden House Structure and secures its present and future use and relevance to the community.

The Fairfield Museum and History Center offers dynamic family programs and exhibitions aimed to spark dialogue and deliberate the challenges of the future. Central to their community-focused mission is a desire to provide important historical context to pressing issues of our time, and to offer a safe, trustworthy environment where multiple perspectives can be heard, and collective solutions explored.

Properties like these enrich the teachings of Connecticut’s history and heritage to audiences both young and old. Please support our efforts that make stewardship of these resources possible.
